Jamaal Brathwaite
Founder & CEO at Jobseekrs®
Jamaal is a Barbadian-born entrepreneur residing in Manchester, UK with a passion for Entrepreneurship, Aviation and the value of human capital. His life's purpose is to create sustainable value in this world while inspiring others to do the same thing. Jamaal and his team's vision is to build Jobseekrs® into a place that champions inclusive work culture, equality & fairness for all.
Jamaal’s first startup was NextGen Interview Ltd. NextGen Interview was a video interview SaaS platform founded in 2013 enabling employers and recruiters to see and hear from candidates before organising face-to-face meetings. It offered a very convenient and efficient way to screen candidates which assisted in drastically reducing interviewing costs and time during the recruitment process.
Jamaal gained investment for NextGen Interview from Brian Lewis founder of Cash Generator & Chairman of the UK Franchise Association. Eventually, Jamaal exited NextGen Interview. Following this, Jamaal founded Jobseekrs® in May 2017. Jamaal found that the culture of hiring employees was steeped in bias and not on the best long-term cultural alignment, resulting in a hiring process based on short termism and not on what is best for the employer and candidate. On this premise, Jobseekrs® was born.
Jobseekrs® mission is to become the primary and most unbiased job-search & matching engine on the internet. It is a video interactive job-site that mitigates unconscious bias at the sourcing and screening stage of the hiring process. As CEO and founder, he led Jobseekrs® to successfully raise £200,000 from Angel investors, one of them being ex-Global CFO of recruitment giant Monster Jobs Worldwide. Jobseekrs® has also successfully taken part in the first GCHQ and Wayra Engineering Accelerator in Manchester which had an acceptance rate of just 4%.
Jobseekrs® has also pitched at St. James’ Palace in front of British Royalty and a stellar selection of global business leaders. Jobseekrs® launched in April 2020 with a primary aim of ensuring everyone, everywhere has equal access to suitable opportunities. Jamaal’s excellence as a leader and unapologetic advocacy for Equality and Diversity in the Tech industry led to his recognition as one of 50 Most Inspiring, Prominent and Influential Black Voices in UK Tech by Tech Nation. He has also been listed as The Common Sense Network’s 30under30. He continues to advocate for Equality and Diversity through is Community Interest Companies Solidarity In Tech, Black United Representation Network, among other things.
