Kirsten MitchellKirsten Mitchell

Inclusion & Diversity Leader, Amazon Web Services Cryptography and Safety Engineering Organization

Kirsten Mitchell is the Sr. Program Manager, Inclusion & Diversity, for Amazon’s AWS Cryptography and Safety Engineering organizations. Within this role she educates and strategizes with leaders to understand the needs of a globally diverse workforce and customer base, with the intent to create an inclusive work environment which mirrors the communities we support and encourages the best builders of all backgrounds to work and stay at Amazon because they are drawn to Amazon's mission, culture, and leaders. “The reason I am here at Amazon,” she says, “is to inspire our leaders to create a diverse workforce through learning, engaging and motivating their teams on a global scale.” With over twenty years of experience in Customer Service, Operations Management and Human Resources, Kirsten is passionate about helping all employees have the opportunity to “bring their best self to work.” She also strives to create access, opportunities and equity, along with an inclusive work environment where people feel like they belong.

As one of the world’s many English Literature majors who ended up not using their degree, Kirsten fuels her ongoing effort to be an “expert in learning” by reading as many books on a diverse array of topics that she can get her hands on and increases her own cultural competency by traveling frequently (outside of the pandemic!). Currently she is reading “Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson - and highly recommends it so far.
