Many people are shy about telling their true stories. For many reasons, they resist talking about their various identities, especially in workplaces. They resist because they think that their stories are miserable, irrelevant, or uninteresting to others. They may underestimate the power in their own stories. Or they may fear the responses from others, especially within the workplace. In fact, a unique, emotional and profound personal story can help us grow our business, get promoted and also find happiness in our personal life.

Demonstrating the power of storytelling, this workshop will focus on courage and vulnerability in sharing personal stories to foster growth and understanding. Recent history has demonstrated our great need for and value in having those personal conversations.

This presentation demonstrates an approach to personal dialogue that begins with storytelling and listening. This approach is born out of listening to children as a catalyst for those difficult conversations. Listening to the questions of participants generates stories, which can spark productive dialogue. A model of the storytelling is Anthony Peterson’s TEDx Talk, What I Am Learning from My White Grandchildren: Truths about Race.
